Former President Donald J. Trump gave a statement on Fox News regarding whether he would return to the Twitter platform following Elon Musk’s $44 billion deal to take the company private.

“I am not going on Twitter, I’m going to stay on TRUTH,” Trump told Fox News. He said he hopes Elon purchases Twitter because “he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man.” Trump ended the statement by saying he would be staying on TRUTH and would be active on the platform by next week.

Trump was cordial to Mr. Musk, saying he didn’t see Twitter as “competition” and that the reason he wants to stay on his own platform is because it is his “voice”.

“This is a platform for my voice. TRUTH is a platform for my voice and for my supporters,”

TRUTH Social is the social media platform announced by Donald Trump in October of 2021. The aim of the company was to “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.”

Twitter permanently suspended the president after the events of January 6th. Trump was a huge fan of the platform, and used it nearly every day to rally support, troll the media and give updates to Trump-fans all over the world. After the decision to suspend his speech on the platform, 88 million followers were cut-off from direct communication with the president – an unprecedented event in American history.

Several major Republicans were calling for Trump’s Twitter account to be reinstated when Musk took a 9% stake in Twitter. Lauren Boebert, Monica Crowley and Errol Webber all made public statements lambasting political censorship and showing support for the former president.
