Wednesday night, President Donald Trump announced a new social media network, “TRUTH Social.” The announcement comes as Trump’s advisor Jason Miller’s platform, GETTR, is experiencing rapid growth in pro-Trump circles.
TRUTH Social will aim to be a platform to “stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech.” The app is apparently a cornerstone project for the brand new Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). The app’s expected launch will come in the first quarter of 2022, according to Trump, but a beta launch will happen in November of this year for invited guests.
Trump explained in an announcement why he launched TRUTH and his new media/tech company:
“I created TRUTH Social and TMTG to stand up to the tyranny of Big Tech … We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable.”
He goes on:
“I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon … TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech. Everyone asks me why doesn’t someone stand up to Big Tech? Well, we will be soon!”
