A Laredo Border Patrol agent has been charged with trafficking undocumented immigrants.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection a veteran U.S. Border Patrol agent is one of the implicated.

It occurred in Southern New Mexico. In a statement, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection claims, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission and expects officers and agents to adhere to the oath they take to uphold and enforce the laws of this country.

CBP will continue to support the criminal or administrative investigation of alleged misconduct by any of our personnel, on or off duty.”

The agent has been with Border Patrol since 2008 and the case has been turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of Texas.

It was issued in two different days back in March. The first one Wednesday 24 and Tuesday 29. U.S. Border Patrol said agents from the Lordsburg station received information indicating a vehicle had crossed the border illegally through the desert West of the Columbus Port of Entry.

A grand jury on May 21 indicted the agent on felony charges “related to transporting undocumented individuals for private gain,” says a statement issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
