Tuesday, the January 6 Congressional Committee held a hearing featuring a so-called “surprise witness” to testify against President Donald Trump.
Committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney’s star witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former low-level staffer for then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, said she heard of numerous ridiculous stories about Trump, which we will expand on in this article. However, Hutchinson also bragged about a job she expected to receive at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago days after January 6, an opportunity that fell through.
Hutchinson, just 25, most notably testified that Trump somehow took the limousine wheel from Secret Service agents on January 6 when they refused to take him to the Capitol. This was a rumor Hutchinson claims to have heard in the office.
For a number of reasons, this story seems like a fairy tale. First off, the Presidential limousine, named “The Beast,” has a barrier inside between the passengers and the driver for security reasons.
Republican strategist Alex Bruesewitz had comedic commentary on the impossibility of these accusations:
Secret Service sources are already denying that Hutchinson’s far-fledged accusations are truthful. Townhall’s Julio Rosas reports:
Peter Alexander from the liberal NBC News also debunked the narrative with information from his sources:
Federalist Co-Founder Sean Davis shared a tweet showing article clippings (attached) from an article naming Hutchinson as an aide who was in contention for a post-administration gig:
The corrupt J6 committee’s new SURPRISE WITNESS was so appalled by Trump and J6 that she…was planning to go work for Trump at his FL residence eight days *after* January 6 (article was published on January 14, 2021). This Soviet show trial is a joke.– Sean Davis, Twitter
Trump responded to Cassidy’s testimony on Truth Social:
Hutchinson also claimed Trump knew that supporters at the Capitol had AR-15s.
However, Cassidy had little evidence to back up this claim. The committee angled Hutchinson’s accusation as ‘corroborating’ evidence for the vague communications they obtained from Capitol Police. The audio, which was played during Tuesday’s hearing, is anything but conclusive:
So far, the partisan January 6 committee has uncovered nothing incriminating Donald Trump. Day after day, the taxpayer continues to fund an unpopular federal witchhunt.
well said…could not agree with you more.
Trump and his family never belonged in politics . Family of draft dodgers , could you imagine if he was President during Ukraine invasion , we would be backing Putin. This man is a disaster as aAmerican . He has wrecked the Republican
Party .Name caller couldn’t get along with his administration. The remarks he has made about the military deserves a goo ass kicking . A punk
As I watched Cassidy describe the “encounter” between Trump and the Secret Service agents, the only thing I could think of was “Just like Amber Heard, she is struggling and hesitating with her words during testimony” which shows it was totally false. Where does this J6 Commission get these people?
No matter how you slice it, Mr. Trump needs to move on. He would do the Republican Party a BIg favor if he would publicly announce that he is not a candidate for the presidency in 2024. This would give younger potential candidates room to plan and to raise funds for the 2024 campaign. The next two years are going to be rough going for the current president, as he tries to live down all the mistakes of his presidency and their consequences. Whoever inherits the presidency after him is going to have a terrible mess on his hands, even if the Chinese threat hasn’t yet materialized. If Republicans gain control of Congress in the 2022 elections, they will also be tainted by the ongoing troubles that the Biden administration has created, unless they come up with extraordinarily successful solutions. The continual controversies surrounding Mr. Trump will almost surely prohibit the Republicans from effectively countering the Biden presidency during this period. What is needed RIGHT NOW is for Mr. Trump to step aside and let the most creative voices in the party be heard without interference, so that they can build momentum for 2024. The sad situation in current American politics is that both Biden and Trump are getting in the way. They are both too old to be running the country. Let both of them count their wins and move aside so that there can be a real debate involving the best and most creative thinking for the future. Looking back to the past won’t work in today’s world. There are real and severe problems that must be solved if the very existence of the planet is to continue, not only climate change, but the future of democracy in a world wracked by political, ideological division. We can’t make America great again by ignoring these problems and relying on past solutions. Thank you Donald Trump and Joe Biden for showing us that the future belongs to younger leaders who are not intimidated by the bullies and tyrants that threaten to take it away from us.
