The Trump administration has gone forward with finalizing an administrative rule that deprives the nation’s largest abortion provider of $60 million in taxpayer dollars. Annually, Planned Parenthood receives $50 million to $60 million through Title X funds, but these new rules promise life-affirming change. While the actions of the current presidential administration have angered Planned Parenthood into filing a lawsuit, taking steps to defund the abortion giant means funding can go towards supporting the philantrophic work of pregnancy centers instead.

While the purpose of Title X funds is to provide poor women with birth control, cancer screenings, and other services, these funds indirectly fund Planned Parenthood’s abortion services. The new rule put in place by the Trump administration will require Title X recipients to document their compliance with the rule, but so far,  Planned Parenthood has refused. This means the abortion corporation will lose the entirety of its funding since it has chosen to prioritize its abortion services over women’s health care. Currently, there are 4,000 Title X sites across the nation, with Planned Parenthood representing fewer than 400 centers, which means low-income women have no reason to fear losing access to Title X services.

Another recent proposal for Title X from the Trump administration also indicated that Planned Parenthood would be prohibited from receiving funds if they failed to house their abortion business in separate buildings from their other services. Most Planned Parenthood centers have expressed a refusal to comply with these requirements as well.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenenfelser voiced the gratitude she had towards the actions this administration has taken to free taxpayers from funding abortions.

“The Title X program was not intended to be a slush fund for abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, which violently ends the lives of more than 332,000 unborn babies a year…we thank President Trump and Secretary Azar for ensuring that the Title X program is truly about funding family planning, not abortion.”
