A Utah mother is voicing her displeasure after a science teacher at the Cannon Middle School told students to eat insects as part of an assignment supposedly showing that bugs can be a better alternative for the planet than traditional animal-based proteins.
The students, according to the mom Amanda Wright, who reported the incident to the Fox News website, said students weren’t allowed to dissent or give an opposing view to the teacher’s point of view.
The teacher gave the assignment on March 7, saying cows are “killing the world,” and that bugs could possibly be used as an alternative. School officials said that the students “loved the assignment,” and the teacher, Kim Cutler, gave the students extra credit if they ate the bugs.
“All the evidence suggests that we should probably be eating bugs, it’s good for the environment etc. But I didn’t know that was such an offensive topic,” the teacher said in the meeting with the school officials and the mom.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Jesse Watters Primetime,” the mom said she set up an interview with the principal, teacher and several school officials, along with her daughter.
The daughter took a separate video during a class session which captured the following exchange: “How come we can’t, express our opinion and write that we shouldn’t be eating bugs?” The teacher responded, “because we don’t have any evidence to support it,” the teacher responded.
“It’s kind of weird that I gave you a topic where there is only one right answer. We don’t want to eat bugs, it’s gross. But should we be eating bugs? Yeah, because we’re killing the world by raising cows and animals. So we need to, not get rid of cows, but try to balance our diet so that not so much of our land is being used to raise cows, because it’s killing the Ozone layer.”
“What if you wanted to?” the student interrupted.
“You don’t have any evidence to support it. There’s only one right answer in this essay. And it’s Americans should be eating bugs. Everyone in the world should be eating them, it’s healthy for the environment and there’s just, only one right answer,” the teacher responded.
On “Watters Primetime,” the mom said she already had the meeting with the school officials, the teacher, and the Principal, and that nothing was done. She also said that she found the school’s response “rude,” and the teacher’s response “condescending.”
“Her response was absolutely rude, and trying to make it look like my daughter had these videos out of context,” Wright continued in the interview with Watters.
No corrective action was taken, and Wright’s daughter said that it felt “kind of awkward going back to school after talking about the topic.”

oh, if it will only save one child. Ya know? I don’t give a fuck about that one child – compared to the destruction the rest of us face. I would gladley put a bullet in that childs hand, and tell him that he might need it to survive one day. It’s silly, it is.
