Elon Musk will step down as CEO of Twitter if the famous billionaire holds to his word in the newest Twitter poll popular vote.
In a 12-hour poll asking “Should I step down as head of Twitter?”, Elon Musk promised to abide by the final results selected by the user base.
With 17.5 million votes tabulated on the tweet, the final results were 57.5% “Yes” and 42.5% “No”.
Musk followed up the Twitter poll by saying “As the saying goes, be careful what you wish, as you might get it”.
Cryptically, two hours after the poll launched, Musk also Tweeted, “Those who want power are the ones who least deserve it.”
If Elon keeps to his word on the poll, users can expect the Tesla founder to step down from his executive position at Twitter. No possible CEOs have been officially floated as a replacement for Musk. It’s also unclear whether Musk would still be involved in the company, as the primary owner of the platform.
Famously, Musk followed the popular will of the people in November 2022 when he unbanned former President Trump from Twitter following 51.8 to 48.2 vote in favor of reinstatement. He followed up the results by tweeting “vox populi, vox dei” and “the people have spoken.”
