Friday evening, House Democrats cheered the passing of a bill designed to restrict Second Amendment rights. In a 217 to 213 vote, the House passed a bill that would ban semi-automatic, AR-style firearms.

Pelosi championed the bill as, “a crucial step in our ongoing fight against the deadly epidemic of gun violence.”

House Democrats could be heard cheering Friday, as Nancy Pelosi gaveled in the vote.

“On this vote, the yays are 2017, the nays are 213, the bill is passed.” Nancy said with a wide, decrepit grin. Democrats could be seen in the background hugging and cheering.

If passed by the Senate and enacted, the bill would criminalize the manufacturing, selling, transferring or possessing of any “semiautomatic assault weapon or large capacity ammunition feeding device” [MSN].

Last month, the House passed a bill banning high capacity magazines and raised the purchase age for an ‘assault rifle’ to 21 years old.

The Biden administration has been vocal about wanting to restrict gun access and ownership in the United States. A White House statement was released in support of the bill, saying, “40,000 Americans die from gunshot wounds every year and guns have become the top killer of children in the United States…as President Biden has repeatedly called for, we must do more to stop this gun violence and save lives. We know an assault weapons and large-capacity magazine ban will save lives.”
