In an exclusive piece from Breitbart News, reporter Matthew Boyle broke the news that former Vice President Mike Pence is considering challenging Trump for the 2024 nomination.

In the interview designed to help promote his new book So Help Me God, Pence spoke on the recent 2022 midterm election results and the future for the Republican party.

The former vice president talked about his efforts to re-elect Georgia governor Brian Kep.

“I remember being in, the night before the primary, in Georgia that in some respects was contested along these fault lines itself when I was campaigning for Gov. Brian Kemp and I said then that the Republican Party must be the party of the future. Gov. Kemp would go on to win overwhelmingly renomination and then he defeated the most formidable candidate in the country and won a strong reelection as the governor of Georgia.”

Pence outlined what he deemed important for Republican leadership to emphasize in the coming year.

“I really think the takeaway for Republicans, especially those in the new Republican majority, is we need to be focused on what people are dealing with today and the hardships they’re facing today and we need to bring our country back to the prosperity and security we experienced under the Trump-Pence administration.”

Mike Pence did not endorse Trump’s 2024 run –  instead, he said there will be “better choices” than Trump.

“I believe there will be better options. I believe there will be better choices. I have great confidence in Republican primary voters,”

Pence himself may consider running for the Republican nomination.

According to Breitbart, he will “give prayerful consideration” over the holiday season as to whether he should throw his hat in the ring.

“In terms of our role, I can tell you we are going to give prayerful consideration to what role we might play in the months and years ahead as we gather over the Christmas holidays but whether I’m a candidate for president or whether I’m championing another candidate I promise you I’ll never stop fighting for the conservative policies and values that have defined my public life since the very start,”

Pence did leave the final nomination choice to the voters saying, “As I said, nobody could have defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016 other than Donald Trump. Republican primary voters knew what we needed in a standard-bearer in that election. I have every confidence that Republican primary voters will sort out who would best be our standard-bearer for the 2024 election. I’ll leave that to them and we’ll reflect deeply on what role we might play.”

Even though the 2022 midterm elections are finalizing (with a Georgia runoff still to come in early December), the 2024 campaign season is starting to take shape. Former President Donald J. Trump officially announced his bid for the Republican nomination before a crowd of supporters at Mar-a-Lago on November 15th. “In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said.
