President Biden expressed support for former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation after an investigation confirmed claims of sexual harassment.

Initially, the President called on the governor to resign, after Cuomo’s announcement, Biden said, “I respect the governor’s decision.” Biden defended Democrats, noting that Cuomo’s scandal is merely representative of him, not the party.

The President went on to say, “I thought, he’s done a hell of a job. Thought he’s done a hell of a job. … On everything from access to voting, to infrastructure, a whole range of things. That’s why it’s so sad.”

Following the publication of the New York Attorney General’s investigation, Cuomo continued to deny the veracity of the allegations:

“The independent investigation has concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and in doing so violated federal and state law,” AG Leticia James said in a press conference.

She continued to outline the harassment of “… current and former NY state employees,” including “engaging in unwelcome and nonconsensual touching and making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature.”

Despite the conclusion of the nonpartisan investigation, Cuomo continues to deny the allegations. In a video released today, he said, “I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances. I am 63 years old. I’ve lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who I am.” After persistent calls for resignation, the governor made his announcement to step down.
