WASHINGTON, DC – The House has reconvened for a second day of voting as GOP leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) fights for the speakership.
Last night, McCarthy received a key boost – an endorsement for the speakership from former President Donald Trump – but his path to winning the gavel is still unclear as 20+ Republicans have defected to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) in the most recent vote.
Today, the House is now holding a fourth vote to elect a speaker, and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has nominated Byron Donalds (R-FL), who defected to Jordan from McCarthy yesterday.
