Wednesday evening, right after Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to secure a majority in a sixth speakership vote, Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) visited Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News.
Boebert and Hannity stand on wildly different sides of the speakership debate, despite both standing proudly next to Donald Trump over the years.
Boebert is one of 20 Republicans in the House refusing to back Trump’s pick McCarthy, while Hannity has spent the past few days focused on telling conservatives to vote for the Californian.
The visit led to a tense exchange where Boebert and Hannity’s differing viewpoints clashed mightily.
Twitter user William-of-Ockham posted a meme supporting Boebert, writing, “Lauren Boebert is not playing around with [Kevin McCarthy] and his paid shills in the media (referring to Hannity).”
The battle for the speakership in the 118th Congress is historic for a number of reasons.
A Speaker of the House was not selected on day one for the first time in exactly a century, and the selection has taken longer than six votes just eight times in American history.
