“One of the big things you do in hearings, you have to sit there and look intensively at people who have no idea what they are talking about.”Clarence Thomas on Joe Biden
In 1991, President George H.W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to be a justice on the Supreme Court. During the hearing process, then-Senator Joe Biden questioned Thomas on aspects of American law.
Clarence Thomas believes Joe Biden had no clue what he was talking about.
Thomas described his experience with Biden during the Supreme Court hearings in the documentary “Created Equal”.
Interviewer: “Senator Biden was very focused on natural law. How did that go?”
Thomas: “Who knows? I have no idea what he was talking about.”
The documentary cut to a shot of Joe Biden speaking in the hearings about natural law, ending with, “now that may be lost on all the people, but you [Thomas] know and I know what we are talking about”.
Thomas to the interviewer: “I have to be perfectly honest with you. You sit there and you have no idea what they are talking about. All I know is that he was asking me this question about natural law.”
“One of the big things you do in hearings, you have to sit there and look intensively at people who have no idea what they are talking about.”
Senator Biden was famously aggressive with Clarence Thomas, leveling accusations of sexual assault against the then-nominee. Thomas was ultimately cleared of this accusation. The Justice called Biden’s attacks a “high tech lynching” in the hearing.
Justice Clarence Thomas has come under fire from the Left in recent days for being the key voice in a 5-4 vote to overturn Roe v. Wade.
